About Laurel Schmidt

Laurel Schmidt AuthorLaurel Schmidt had the great fortune to have a father who was passionate about art and he passed that gene on to her. Her BA is in art and her MA in art history. She has had a long and satisfying career combining art, education and writing.

Laurel works with numerous museums in Los Angeles and New York, including LACMA, the Getty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, training museum docents in touring techniques that incorporate inquiry and multiple intelligence theory. She is the author of five books including Classroom Confidential and Contemporary Art Start: A Curriculum Guide to Contemporary Art and Culture, the centerpiece of an inquiry-based art education program published by MOCA.

Laurel is a writer, consultant and staff development specialist. In a former life she was a teacher, principal, director and adjunct professor at several universities.
